“You’ve Rebelled Against the King!” –> “So?”

We need to be conscious of our vocabulary when we present the Gospel.

For example, suppose you say to an American, “Our primary problem is that we’ve rebelled against God who is King of all creation–including you and I. We are rebellious subjects!”

Her response might well be, “So? That’s doesn’t sound like such a bad thing–that’s how our great country was founded! We rebelled against the king of England!”

So even when we use wholly biblical language [see here for a Gospel presentation using this language], we probably need to explain.
